INTRODUCTION

In 1985 a group of Romanian research workers investigating the periodontal disease identified Staphilococcus as the causal agent.

The research has been made by the University Hospital Bucharest, the Dental University Bucharest, the National Institute Cantacuzino, the National Institute of Morphopathology and Immunology Babes.

In the periodontal literature the occurance of the Staphilococci was not revelead as an agent in the origin of the Periodontal disease. This assumption determined a longitudinal study concerning the role of the Staphilococci in the determination of lesions in the periodontal disease.

This assumption has been supported by some recent studies, as:

''periodontal disease progression requires the simultaneous presence of high number of pathogens, low number ofcompatible or benefical species a conductive local environment and a susceptible host. Effective therapy acts by altering one or more of these factors.''

SOCRANSKY, S.S. et al., 1994

'the cytotoxicity of A. actinomycetemcomitans in presence of P. gingivalis is neutralised while in presence of S. aureus it waas increased.

JOHANSSON, A. et al., 1994

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Since 1985 clinical trials were carried out in over 2,500 patients treated on an original way with Staphilococcic vaccine.

100 patients out of them matched for age and clinical presentation, were submitted also to a bacteriological investigation and pathological and immunological investigations were performed in some cases.

Gingival biopsies have been carried out of patients with periodontits before and after the treatament. The fragments have been fixed in neuter formalin 10%, parrafin embedding, and colouring with eosin hematoxiline (EH), van Giesen (VS), PAS, GÖMÖRI were performed on sections.
